‘Work Buddies’: what they mean to you… and our company

Why meet?
Use this meeting to learn whether you and your team members could be getting more productive mileage out of having friendships at work, within or outside the team – and if it seems so, to decide how to make that happen.

Getting started

First, you’ll need to find out how your people feel after reading the “Work Buddies” article: Does having close friendships at work make us more engaged in our jobs?

To facilitate feedback, it may help to ask:

  • How many of us have friends at work who we also see off the job?
  • Do those who do, find that these relationships can help us get work done?

(Don’t hesitate to join this discussion with anecdotes and opinions of your own.)

If the team seems convinced that having good friends at work makes no difference, this could be a short meeting (especially if you also feel that way). But before adjourning, you may want to ask,

  • What do we make of the evidence and testimony reported in this article, saying such friendships are important? Is it different for us? Why?
