The Story Board: our story
The Story Board is a company founded by corporate communicators, for corporate communicators, with empathy for the special challenges of employee communication. Our founder is one of the field’s most professionally honored practitioners, and our contributors are his carefully chosen associates. Our product is workplace journalism – an underappreciated discipline with a major role to play in employee engagement.
Our central premise:
- as an internal communicator, you want to make a difference – not only in your employer’s business success but in the work lives of your fellow employees;
- much of what you need to communicate to make this difference concerns issues unique to your employer – but,
- another set of issues also affects your work force that aren’t remarkably different from one company to another – yet they tip the fortunes of your business almost as much as those that are unique;
- in explaining these more global topics to employees, putting them in big-picture context enhances their relevance; but it’s zooming in on their local implications that makes them actionable.
Meanwhile,
- your organization is pressing you to do more with less – or at least prove the cost-effectiveness of every dollar you spend;
- you need more than ever to turn out well reasoned, tightly crafted, engaging copy on strategically relevant subjects – but,
- the junior staffers and low-cost free lancers most available on your tight budget have trouble meeting this quality challenge; and of course,
- your big unmet goal is to integrate the communications you send through your established employee media, with what employees and managers actually talk about in the workplace.
At The Story Board, we know these realities from having lived them so long. We created our company to ease our colleagues’ burden in balancing these often-conflicting demands.
